If you live, work, or play in Boston, you know that people would rather go out of their way to be rude to you than to be nice. It's every man for himself, lots of pushing and shoving getting onto the T, forget about taking a turn onto a busy street NO ONE will stop to let you in, if you're driving too slow you'll have more than one car on your tail honking, its rare to see someone holding a door for you, and its rush rush rush every where you go.
After a busy, exhausting day, I was mindlessly walking up the stairs of South Station when I heard a guy on the escalator next to the stairs say "HERE YA GO!" and handed me this little beautiful rose with a smile. He continued up the escalator handing out roses out of his bouquet to random women, both old and young. We were all smiling, holding the little roses in our hands and then continuing with our commutes home.
That man made my day. He bought a bouquet of roses just to make people smile. More people need to be as self-less as this man was. Kindness is so valuable and too many people see rudeness as an easier option. So be kind today, and every day, smile at a stranger, take a minute to hold the door, give up your seat, compliment a shirt you like. Time isn't wasted being kind and it will make you and the people around you feel a lot better than rudeness does!
